What is NovaStar H15 Enhanced video wall splicer?

The NovaStar H15 Enhanced video wall splicer is a 15U modular chassis for a permanent installation with a large, confirmed display map. It works by receiving each planned source through input cards, building the required layouts and layers, then delivering each finished view through video output cards to displays or LED output cards to LED cabinets.

The buying decision is the output map. H15 Enhanced holds up to 16 output cards and 64 output channels, compared with 10 cards and 40 channels on NovaStar H15. Choose Enhanced when the confirmed design needs 11–16 routes. Choose H15 when the design fits 10 positions but one output card needs more than 10 2K layers; H15 allows up to 16 layers on that card.

NovaStar H15 Enhanced video wall splicer key features: what makes it different?

  • Keep a larger display map under one chassis: H15 Enhanced supports up to 16 output cards and 64 output channels. A command room can keep its main LED wall, overview map, incident feed, alert panel and side displays on their own planned routes in the same rack.
  • Keep the planned source list available: up to 30 input cards and 120 input channels provide room for the installation’s computers, cameras, media servers, switcher feeds and operational data sources. The selected input cards determine the actual connectors.
  • Match the chassis to the layout on each card: both H15 models have 160 total layers, but H15 Enhanced supports up to 10 2K layers on each output card while H15 supports up to 16. Enhanced solves a larger route count; it is not the automatic choice for a dense layout concentrated on one card.
  • Choose the LED cabinet path after the wall is defined: compatible RJ45 or fiber LED output cards—also called sending cards—carry the completed layout to cabinets. The selected family sets the published pixel capacity and connection path; the empty chassis does not have one fixed LED load.
  • Operate a fixed room with repeatable layouts: H15 Enhanced supplies two power supplies, offers two additional redundant supplies, and supports hot-swappable I/O cards, presets and monitoring. That supports a serviceable system whose common room layouts can be recalled without rebuilding the rack plan.

NovaStar H15 Enhanced input cards, video output cards and LED output cards

Plan H15 Enhanced from three lists: sources entering the system, separately connected displays, and LED cabinet routes. Input cards accept the sources. Video output cards feed the displays. LED output cards—also called sending cards—drive the cabinets. The 16 output-card positions are shared by the last two lists, so count them separately before ordering.

What needs to connect What belongs in the H15 Enhanced system Why it matters before ordering
Sources entering the system Select input cards for the actual connection type, such as the H_1x HDMI2.0 input card. The input cards accept the computers, cameras, media servers or other source equipment. Count the independent feeds and match their real formats before choosing a card.
Finished pictures going to non-LED displays Use compatible video output cards, such as the H_1 HDMI2.0 output card, when a finished layout must feed a display connection. These cards provide the required display-side format. Their count belongs in the 16-card output plan, but they are not cabinet sending cards.
Finished pictures going to LED cabinets Use LED output cards such as the NovaStar™ H Series 16x RJ45 + 2x Fiber Output Card, NovaStar™ H Series 20x RJ45 Output Card, NovaStar™ H Series 4x Fiber Output Card or NovaStar™ H Series 4x Fiber Output Card (Enhanced). The selected LED card determines the RJ45 or fiber cabinet route and the published pixel capacity. It also occupies an output-card position.
Cabinet receiving side Match the LED sending-card route with the correct NovaStar receiving cards configuration. The chassis layout, output card, cable or optical route, receiving-card configuration and cabinet connection order must describe the same physical LED screen.

Browse the H Series category for compatible cards once the route list is final. A video-display card and an LED sending card occupy the same output plan, but they solve different endpoint requirements.

NovaStar H15 Enhanced maximum pixel capacity by LED output card

The figures below answer an LED capacity question only. Each total assumes that all 16 output-card positions use the same named LED output-card family. A system that mixes video-display cards with LED cards, or uses a different card count, needs its own cabinet route and port-map calculation.

LED output-card path Published load per card H15 Enhanced total with 16 installed What to confirm
NovaStar™ H Series 16x RJ45 + 2x Fiber Output Card 10.4 million pixels 166.4 million pixels Sixteen selected cards; use the actual RJ45/fiber route and cabinet port map.
NovaStar™ H Series 20x RJ45 Output Card 13 million pixels 208 million pixels Sixteen selected all-RJ45 cards; the 20 ports on each card do not make every physical wall layout identical.
NovaStar™ H Series 4x Fiber Output Card 20.8 million pixels 332.8 million pixels Sixteen selected fiber cards; fiber layout and optical modules still need to be specified for the installed route.
NovaStar™ H Series 4x Fiber Output Card (Enhanced) 26 million pixels 416 million pixels The highest published H15 Enhanced total; it requires this enhanced fiber card in all 16 output-card positions.

Keep one compatible sending-card family on each LED screen. Review the route details for the NovaStar™ H Series 16x RJ45 + 2x Fiber Output Card, NovaStar™ H Series 20x RJ45 Output Card, NovaStar™ H Series 4x Fiber Output Card and NovaStar™ H Series 4x Fiber Output Card (Enhanced). NovaStar does not allow a standard 4x Fiber card to load the same LED screen with 20x RJ45, 16x RJ45 + 2x Fiber or enhanced 4x Fiber cards.

NovaStar H15 Enhanced vs H15: output-card slots and layer capacity

Start this comparison with the actual output map. H15 Enhanced lets one 15U chassis accommodate 11–16 output cards. Standard H15 ends at 10 positions, but allows more 2K and DL layers on each card. Both keep the same 15U frame, input-card capacity and 160 total layers.

Selection point NovaStar H15 NovaStar H15 Enhanced
Rack height 15U 15U
Maximum input cards / channels 30 / 120 30 / 120
Maximum output cards / channels 10 / 40 16 / 64
Total layers 160 160
Maximum 2K layers per output card 16 10
Maximum DL layers per output card 8 5
Maximum 4K layers per output card 4 4
Maximum 8K layers per output card 2 2
Choose it when The finished output plan fits ten cards and one selected output card needs more than ten 2K layers. The finished output plan needs 11–16 cards or 41–64 output channels in one 15U chassis.

The LED pixel figure comes after the card path is selected; it should not decide this H15-versus-Enhanced choice. If the confirmed card count exceeds a 15U chassis, compare NovaStar H20 for its larger chassis capacity.

NovaStar H15 Enhanced applications for complex multi-screen installations

H15 Enhanced fits these fixed installations when the confirmed design needs more than ten completed display or cabinet routes and each output card’s 10-layer allowance fits the planned layout:

Operations center with separate side displays

A main LED wall, overview map, incident feed, alert panel and side displays can each keep a defined finished view. H15 Enhanced is the fit when that confirmed group needs more than ten output-card positions in one rack.

Production control and technical monitoring

A production suite can keep program, preview, camera and engineering views in their intended positions across the display group. Select Enhanced for the added card positions, then verify that each card’s own layout stays within 10 2K layers.

Large briefing or training environment

A training room can move between a full-room presentation, a speaker feed, live data and supporting screens while keeping the installed routes in place. The value is a confirmed display plan that needs 11–16 card positions, not a generic promise of more power.

Permanent multi-zone visitor experience

A visitor installation can combine a main LED canvas, side panels and display zones that need their own completed layouts. List which zones are LED cabinet routes and which are video-display endpoints before selecting the card mix.

H15 Enhanced setup and receiving-card compatibility

Setup has two connected stages. H15 Enhanced receives sources and places them in the required layouts. For an LED wall, the selected sending card, cable or fiber route, receiving-card file and cabinet order then map those layouts onto the physical cabinets.

  • In H15 Enhanced: install the selected cards, place the sources in the required layouts and save the recurring operating presets.
  • At the LED cabinet side: use NovaLCT for the selected sending-card route, cabinet file, receiving-card configuration and screen mapping.
  • Before commissioning: confirm that the output card, connector or fiber path, cabinet order and NovaStar receiving cards configuration all describe the same physical LED screen. A correct chassis layout cannot fix a mismatched receiver file or a cable path connected in the wrong order.

NovaStar H15 Enhanced FAQs

Is NovaStar H15 Enhanced a complete LED wall system?

No. H15 Enhanced is the rack-mounted chassis that organizes the screen layouts; by itself, it cannot receive source video or drive LED cabinets. A working installation also needs the selected input cards, video or LED output cards for the planned endpoints, and the receiving-card configuration for every LED cabinet route.

Does the H15 Enhanced price include input cards and output cards?

The listing is for the H15 Enhanced chassis. Input cards, video-output cards, LED sending/output cards and optical modules where required are selected separately for the installed system.

What does 16 output cards mean on H15 Enhanced?

It means the chassis supports up to 16 selected output cards and 64 output channels. Those positions can be planned for compatible video-output cards or LED sending cards, but the two card types have different display jobs and must not be counted as one generic cabinet-port total.

Should I choose H15 or H15 Enhanced?

Choose H15 Enhanced when the completed design needs 11–16 output cards or 41–64 output channels in one 15U chassis. Choose standard H15 when the output plan fits ten cards but one selected output card needs more than ten 2K layers. Both list 30 input cards, 120 input channels and 160 total layers.

What is the maximum H15 Enhanced LED capacity?

It depends on the selected LED sending-card path. NovaStar lists 166.4 million pixels with H_16xRJ45+2xFiber cards, 208 million with H_20xRJ45, 332.8 million with H_4xFiber and 416 million with enhanced H_4xFiber cards. Each total assumes 16 cards of that same family.

Can standard and enhanced H_4xFiber cards drive the same LED screen?

No. NovaStar states that the enhanced H_4xFiber card cannot load the same LED screen together with the standard H_4xFiber card. It also states that H_4xFiber cards cannot load the same screen together with H_20xRJ45 or H_16xRJ45+2xFiber cards. Plan one compatible sending-card route for each LED screen.

Does H15 Enhanced include redundant power?

H15 Enhanced includes two power supplies. Two additional supplies are optional when the installation’s uptime plan calls for that extra redundancy.

Where are the LED cabinets and receiving cards configured?

H15 Enhanced is used to build the source and screen layout. For the LED cabinet side, use NovaLCT to apply the cabinet and receiving-card configuration that matches the selected sending card, physical route and cabinet connection order.

Are the H15 Enhanced manual and firmware model-specific?

The H15 and H15 Enhanced specifications PDF is an exact joint model document. The manual, firmware ZIP and release notes above are verified H Series family resources, and their titles make that scope clear.

Can the H15 Enhanced preview card monitor every output card?

The H_2xRJ45+1xHDMI1.3 Preview Card supports monitoring, but NovaStar notes that H15 Enhanced cannot monitor the first output card. Include that limitation in the commissioning test when that card needs local preview.
