How this calculator works
Every figure comes from NovaStar’s official datasheets. A gigabit Ethernet port carries up to 650,000 pixels at 8-bit 60Hz, so your wall’s pixel count fixes the minimum number of ports, and each controller’s documented load capacity decides whether the whole wall fits in one unit.
- Stated capacities are shown exactly as published (for example, VX1000 Pro: 6.5 million pixels; MX40 Pro: 9 million).
- Derived capacities are marked on the card: for classic sending boxes whose datasheets publish a maximum input canvas instead of a pixel total (MCTRL600/660: 1920×1200-class), the calculator uses that canvas as the ceiling.
- 10-bit halves per-port bandwidth. Models documented as 8-bit-only are hidden at 10-bit; models without a published 10-bit figure show an estimated value, marked as such.
- Modular systems (H series, MX2000/6000 Pro) are priced as frame plus the cards a first build needs, itemized on the card.
The calculator compares single units. Larger walls are built from several controllers or a modular chassis with more output cards — send us the wall size and we’ll spec the full signal chain in writing.

How many pixels can one Ethernet port drive?
One gigabit Ethernet port carries up to 650,000 pixels at 8-bit color and 60Hz — the figure NovaStar states on its controller datasheets. At 10-bit the same port carries about half that (325,000 pixels on models that document it).
How do I find my LED wall's pixel size?
Multiply the cabinet pixel resolution by the number of cabinets in each direction. A wall of 20 x 10 cabinets at 128 x 128 pixels each is 2560 x 1280 = 3,276,800 pixels. The calculator does this for you in “By cabinets” mode.
Why do some models disappear when I select 10-bit?
Models whose datasheets state 8-bit-only video processing are hidden at 10-bit. For models that accept 10-bit but do not publish a 10-bit load figure, the calculator halves the 8-bit capacity and marks the figure as estimated.
What does the redundancy option change?
Full backup means every Ethernet run has a second path, so the calculator doubles the number of ports your wall needs and flags units that cannot provide them.
My wall needs more than 13 million pixels. What do I do?
That is modular-system territory: MX2000 Pro or MX6000 Pro with output cards, an H series chassis with several output cards, or multiple synchronized controllers. Send us the wall size and pixel pitch and we will spec the full chain in writing.
