What is the NovaStar TU4K Pro?
The NovaStar TU4K Pro is the largest all-in-one processor in this range: an Android computer, a source switcher, a video processor and twenty screen outputs in one 1U-style chassis. It drives up to 13,000,000 pixels, plays an 8K file from its own storage, and is the only model here that handles HDR10.
Specify one when your wall is too big for a room processor and too demanding for a player: an auditorium, a large showroom, a lobby feature wall, a standalone outdoor screen running its own content.
It replaces a stack for you. Where you would otherwise rack a media server, a switcher and a controller, this one box does all three, and puts the controls on a front-panel screen and a handset.
NovaStar TU4K Pro key features
It plays one 8K file, with two conditions attached
An 8K stream at 7680×4320 runs from internal storage, and the conditions matter when you brief your content producer. Only two encoders work: H.265 at 24 Hz and 14 Mbps, or VP9 at 30 Hz and 51 Mbps.
Anything between 4K and 8K will not play at all, so your 6K master has to be exported one way or the other rather than left in between.
HDR10, which the other model in this pair does not have
This processor handles HDR10, to the two SMPTE standards the format is defined by. The TU40 Pro beside it does not. If your content is graded for high dynamic range, that single line decides which box you buy.
The screen has to be able to show it too, so confirm the cabinets before the content is commissioned.
Twenty copper outputs and two fiber ports
Twenty Gigabit sockets feed your wall, and two optical ports cover the runs that are too long for network cable. The optical modules themselves are not supplied, so add them to your order.
Sound leaves on four different connectors, including a screw-terminal pair for a distribution amplifier, which is what your permanent venue install usually wants.

Which capacity figure will your wall actually run at?
Your wall runs at 8,800,000 pixels if the picture is shown at its natural size, and at 13,000,000 if it is scaled to fit. Both figures are real; they describe two different ways of feeding the same box.
The lower one governs more often than people expect, because content made for a specific wall is normally rendered at that wall’s own resolution. The Android side of the processor is capped at 8,800,000 as well, so anything played from internal storage lands there.
Put a number on it. A 30-foot by 10-foot wall at 2.5 mm pitch is about 3657 by 1219 pixels, or 4,458,000, and sits comfortably inside either figure. The same wall at 1.5 mm is 6096 by 2032, or 12,387,000 — inside the scaled figure and well past the native one.
Shape has its own limits, and they are generous here: 64 to 16,384 pixels wide and 64 to 8192 high. A very long ribbon screen is more likely to run out of pixels than out of width.
Three features that depend on what is inside your cabinets
Some of what this processor does needs the right hardware at the far end of your cable. Confirm each of these before you order rather than after the wall is built.
Peak brightness reads every frame, lifts contrast and pulls power down at the same time. NovaStar states that it works with the A10s Pro or A8s Pro cards. With any other card in your cabinets the feature is simply unavailable.
Irregular screen layouts are the second. Gaps in the cabinet arrangement stop consuming capacity, and the wall no longer has to be a strict rectangle — but only on cabinet types that support it, which NovaStar confirms model by model.
The optical ports are the third and the simplest. Two are fitted, no modules are supplied, and the ones you buy have to match the fiber already installed. Settle that with whoever pulled the cable, not at commissioning.
TU4K Pro or TU40 Pro — three differences that matter
These two boxes share their processor, memory, port count, capacity and physical size, so a specification comparing them on those lines will find nothing. The differences are elsewhere.

Order the TU4K Pro if your content is graded for high dynamic range, if the job is inspected against a list of marks, or if more than four people will share the screen wirelessly.
Order the TU40 Pro when none of those three applies. It is the same box otherwise, and the money saved is real — just price the nine-way sharing code into the comparison if the room needs it.

NovaStar publishes a separate manual and software package for this model, so take the ones with TU4K Pro in the name rather than the TU40 Pro versions. The two boxes look alike and their documents do not cover each other.
Check your version at commissioning. On a venue screen that runs for years without attention, the update you skip at install is the one you end up doing from a ladder.

Can the TU4K Pro really play 8K?
Yes, one stream from internal storage, encoded as H.265 at 7680×4320 and 24 Hz, or as VP9 at 30 Hz. Files between 4K and 8K are not supported at all, so a master in that range has to be exported to one or the other.
Is 13 million pixels the figure I should design to?
Only if the picture is scaled to the wall. At natural size the ceiling is 8,800,000, and content played from the processor’s own storage is capped there too.
What is the difference between the TU4K Pro and the TU40 Pro?
HDR10, which only this model has; wireless sharing split nine ways as standard rather than four; and a much longer certification list including UL. Processor, memory, ports and capacity are the same on both.
Do the optical ports come with modules?
No. Two are fitted and the modules are bought separately, matched to the fiber already installed on your site.
Which receiving cards does peak brightness need?
The A10s Pro or the A8s Pro. With any other card in your cabinets the feature is unavailable, so confirm what is fitted before you promise it.
Does it need a separate controller?
No. Its twenty Gigabit outputs drive the receiving cards in your cabinets directly, and the two optical ports carry the long runs.
Is annotation on the screen included?
No. Drawing and commenting need a whiteboard activation code bought separately, which is worth adding to the quote if the room brief calls for it.
Can the screen be an irregular shape?
