On a gantry above a pitch, or on a mast beside a motorway, you have both: rain, grit and a temperature swing every day, at the end of a long route. The CVT10 Pro-S combines 1310 nm single-mode optics with a dustproof and waterproof chassis, so one box handles both.

That operating range is the row to weigh against the position you are planning. A sealed body handles rain and dust, but the electronics inside still stop at −20°C and +55°C, so an unventilated south-facing enclosure needs its own thinking.
Which CVT10 does the job need?
You settle which CVT10 the job needs with two questions: how far your fiber goes, and what the far end is exposed to. The four models are the four answers.

- The left-hand pair costs the same as each other, so mode is decided purely by the fiber already in the ground, never by budget.
- What the Pro costs extra is the chassis, and it is worth paying only at the end that is actually exposed. A standard unit in the equipment room feeding a Pro on the gantry is a normal and cheaper build.
- If the screen needs a single Ethernet run rather than ten, a CVT320 covers 20 km of single-mode for a fraction of any of these.
What to check before you order
Your first check is at the rack end, because that is what decides how many converters the job takes. A device with a 10G optical port carrying a single-mode module makes this a one-converter job; an RJ45-only controller makes it two, with the Pro-S kept for your exposed end.
Your whole path has to be single-mode, not just the two converters. The buried run, the patch panels and every jumper are 9/125 µm OS1 or OS2 on LC, and one multimode lead anywhere in that chain behaves like a broken link rather than a slow one.
Your 10 km is glass between two optical ports, not route length. Splices, chambers and panel terminations all draw on the same budget, so on a long municipal route you want a loss test before specifying the converters rather than after.
Your port count still comes from upstream. A 10G port using 8b/10b encoding lights Ethernet ports 1 to 8 at the receiving end, 10.3125G with 64b/66b encoding lights all ten, and a MCTRL660 Pro only puts six Gigabit ports of load on one optical port to begin with.
Settle your mounting before you order. Truss clamps are not in the box, and your rack position has to be rated for 25 kg even though the unit weighs 5.9 kg.
Where a CVT10 Pro-S is used on an LED display system
If your position is hard to reach and hard on equipment at the same time, it is one of these, and that combination is what this model exists for.
One limit follows you into all four of those positions. Sealing the chassis protects it from weather, not from temperature; the electronics still stop at −20°C and +55°C wherever you mount the box.

Will all ten Ethernet ports be live?
Not all ten Ethernet ports go live on the receiving unit in every case. An upstream port at 10G with 8b/10b encoding reaches ports 1 to 8, and 10.3125G with 64b/66b encoding reaches all ten. Whatever the upstream device mirrors is the real ceiling.
What does the rigging position need to support?
Your rigging position carries 5.9 kg of converter, plus clamps you buy separately. A rack alternative needs four M5*12 screws and a frame rated to at least 25 kg.
