If your job is a permanent installation in a US building, someone usually wants a listing before sign-off, and your converter is part of that paperwork. Two of those rows cost you money elsewhere on the order. Truss clamps are a separate line on your quote, and a rack rated for 25 kg is a different specification from one holding a 2 kg converter.

- Order the CVT10 Pro-S instead when that same rigged position has to reach 10 km on single-mode fiber.
What to check before you order
Your first question is how many ends you actually have to convert. If your rack-end device already has a 10G optical port, you need one CVT10 Pro-M at the screen; if your controller only has RJ45 outputs, you need a converter at each end, and the rigged position rarely justifies a Pro at both.
Mixing the two is allowed and often sensible. A standard CVT10-M in your equipment rack talking to a CVT10 Pro-M on the truss is one link with matching 850 nm optics, and it puts the sealed chassis only where the weather is.
What has to match is the light, not the model name: both of your ends multimode at 850 nm, on OM3 or OM4 twin-core with LC connectors. A single-mode module upstream will not reach a Pro-M whatever your fiber run measures.
Your live port count follows the upstream device as usual. A 10G port using 8b/10b encoding lights Ethernet ports 1 to 8 on the receiving unit, 10.3125G with 64b/66b encoding lights all ten, and an MCTRL4K or MCTRL R5 only mirrors eight ports onto one optical port in the first place.
Before ordering, confirm three things: the mode of the module fitted at your rack end, whether your rigging point takes clamps or a rack tray, and whether the power at the far end is protected, because the PowerCON connector is not made to be pulled live.
Where a CVT10 Pro-M is used on an LED display system
Your converter ends up somewhere a normal rack unit would not survive in every one of these, while the fiber run itself stays inside one venue.
None of that is about distance. Reach and port count are identical to the standard CVT10-M, so the Pro earns its place on where you put it, not on what it carries.
If your converter lives in a dry indoor rack, order the CVT10-M. A common build puts the standard unit in your equipment room and the Pro at the rigged end.

Can a CVT10 Pro-M hang from truss?
