What is the NovaStar CVT10 Pro-M?

The NovaStar CVT10 Pro-M is the multimode fiber converter you clamp to truss instead of racking. It hands you the same ten Gigabit Ethernet ports over 300 m of OM3 or OM4 fiber as the standard CVT10-M, in a sealed 1U chassis meant to survive being hung, rigged and rained on.

That is your whole decision. The optics, the port count and the reach do not change between the two, so what you are picking is a housing, a mounting method and a certification list, not more capacity.

Order the Pro when your converter has to leave the equipment room. Order the standard CVT10-M when it stays in a rack indoors, and put the difference toward fiber or spares.

Getting your fiber up to a flown screen usually ends with a converter cable-tied to a truss chord and a nervous look before doors. NovaStar builds the CVT10 Pro-M for horizontal racking or suspended mounting on scaffold with truss clamps, so the box goes where your fiber ends, not where a spare shelf happens to be.

What kills your converter outdoors is grit in a fan and condensation on a board, and both arrive long before the weather anyone planned for. The CVT10 Pro-M answers that with a dustproof and waterproof design across the chassis. NovaStar publishes no ingress-protection rating for it, so treat it as a build for exposed positions rather than a submersible one.

The certification list a fixed install gets asked for

If your job is a permanent installation in a US building, someone usually wants a listing before sign-off, and your converter is part of that paperwork. The CVT10 Pro-M carries CE, FCC, IC, UL, CB, RCM and KC. The standard CVT10 is listed for RoHS, FCC, CE, IC and RCM — a shorter list when an inspector asks.

Ten ports and a backup fiber, unchanged

Where a CVT10 Pro-M is used on an LED display system

Your converter ends up somewhere a normal rack unit would not survive in every one of these, while the fiber run itself stays inside one venue.

No, the CVT10 Pro-M is not faster than the CVT10-M. Both give you ten Gigabit Ethernet ports over two 10G optical ports, and both reach 300 m on multimode fiber. What your money buys is a different chassis, mounting, power draw and certification list.

Can a CVT10 Pro-M hang from truss?

Yes, a CVT10 Pro-M is made to hang. NovaStar documents suspended mounting on scaffold with truss clamps as well as horizontal rack mounting. You buy the clamps separately; they are not supplied with the unit.

What is the ingress-protection rating?

NovaStar describes a dustproof and waterproof design but publishes no ingress-protection rating for this model. Specify it for exposed and rigged positions, not for immersion or direct pressure washing.

Can a CVT10 Pro-M pair with a standard CVT10-M?

Yes, a CVT10 Pro-M pairs with a standard CVT10-M as long as both of your ends run 850 nm multimode optics on OM3 or OM4 fiber. Many jobs put the standard unit in the equipment rack and the Pro at the rigged end.

Does it work with single-mode fiber?

No, single-mode fiber is the wrong match for this one, because it is the multimode build at 850 nm. If your route is single-mode, the CVT10 Pro-S reaches 10 km from the same chassis.

How much rack capacity does one need?

You need one full rack unit, four M5*12 screws or larger, and a rack rated to carry at least 25 kg. The unit itself weighs 5.9 kg.

Where is the USB port?

The USB port is on the rear panel, beside the power and optical connectors. It is a type-B control port for program upgrades through NovaLCT, and it does not cascade units.

Is the CVT10 Pro-M UL listed?
