What is the NovaStar CX40 Pro for?

The NovaStar CX40 Pro is the fixed-I/O 5G COEX controller for a premium LED wall whose source mix and cabinet architecture are already known. It brings HDMI, DisplayPort and 12G-SDI sources into one controller, composes the image in VMP and sends the finished canvas through 5Gbps Ethernet or a 40Gbps optical route.

Choose CX40 Pro when you want a clean, all-in-one controller for a broadcast backdrop, studio wall, xR stage or fixed premium installation. It is especially attractive when the project does not need removable input and output cards. If the source and LED transport plan will change from project to project, a modular MX2000 Pro or MX6000 Pro is the better buying path.

NovaStar CX40 Pro key features for a 5G LED wall

  • Connect the sources a production team already uses: Two HDMI 2.0 inputs, one DisplayPort 1.2 input and two 12G-SDI inputs accept the media-server, graphics, switcher and camera feeds common to a studio or event wall.
  • Compose the wall inside one controller: Up to three 4K layers let an operator combine a program feed, graphics and an overlay for a studio or event wall. That keeps the source plan visible in VMP and makes the CX40 Pro easier to quote as a complete fixed-I/O solution.
  • Send data through the route the installation needs: Six 5Gbps Ethernet outputs suit a planned local cabinet layout, while the 40Gbps optical output supports a fiber path between the rack and a remote LED wall.
  • Shape the image for camera and premium content: HDR10/HLG, 3D LUT, Color Replacement, 14-channel correction, color curves and documented camera timing tools give the operator more control over the final LED picture when the receiving-card and source system are compatible.

NovaStar CX40 Pro specifications: inputs, outputs and 9M pixels

Use this table to see whether the CX40 Pro matches the source rack, LED transport and screen size in your quotation. The 9M figure is the controller’s total stated pixel ceiling across the selected LED output architecture; it is not 9M pixels per Ethernet port and does not replace a cabinet-by-cabinet load calculation.

Controller type Fixed-I/O 5G COEX LED controller
Video inputs 2 x HDMI 2.0, 1 x DisplayPort 1.2 and 2 x 12G-SDI
LED outputs 6 x 5Gbps Ethernet and 1 x 40Gbps optical output
Maximum LED wall load Up to 9,000,000 pixels total across the selected 5Gbps Ethernet or 40Gbps optical route; not per port. Confirm the receiving-card, cabinet and output assignment before using the figure in a quotation.
Layer composition Up to 3 x 4K layers
Control NovaStar VMP, 5.5-inch touch screen, Ethernet and documented central-control interfaces
Image and camera tools HDR10/HLG, 3D LUT, color tools, Genlock, 0-frame latency and camera-oriented COEX tools subject to documented system compatibility

Is CX40 Pro right for xR, broadcast and camera-facing LED walls?

CX40 Pro makes sense when the LED wall is part of a camera-facing production, not just a large display. For a broadcast backdrop, studio wall or xR stage, the useful question is whether the source, timing and receiving-card system are specified together.

  • For layered production content: combine a program feed, graphics and an overlay in up to three 4K layers.
  • For color-sensitive content: use HDR10/HLG, 3D LUT, Color Replacement, 14-channel correction and color curves to shape the source for the LED canvas.
  • For camera-facing walls: Genlock, Frame Rate Adaptive, Shutter Fit and Frame Multiplication support a documented camera workflow when the source, reference, driver IC and receiving cards match.
  • For low-latency requirements: choose the required timing mode before commissioning. The official compatibility notes place limits on combinations of 0-frame latency, Genlock, 3D and Frame Multiplication.

Can the NovaStar CX40 Pro drive your LED wall?

It can be a strong fit for a fixed 5G LED wall up to the stated 9,000,000-pixel total, provided the receiving-card and cabinet map matches the six 5Gbps outputs or the selected 40Gbps optical route.

Use 9M as the controller ceiling, not as an automatic approval for every wall under that number. A proper quote still needs the screen resolution, cabinet chain, output assignment, receiving-card family and any camera or low-latency mode. If the wall is within the capacity and the source/output plan is fixed, CX40 Pro keeps the system compact and easy to specify. If the project needs many changing card combinations, compare the modular MX2000 Pro or MX6000 Pro.

Should your CX40 Pro wall use 5G Ethernet or 40G fiber?

Choose the output route from the physical LED installation, not from the pixel headline alone.

Installation layout Why choose it What to include in the order
Controller close to the LED wall Six 5Gbps Ethernet outputs can follow the planned local cabinet paths. 5G receiving-card family, cabinet map, cable paths and port allocation.
Controller in a rack room or control room The 40Gbps optical output can carry the LED route over fiber to a defined remote endpoint. Converter or receiver-side equipment, fiber type, endpoint and the receiving-card architecture.
Existing 1G cabinet chain CX40 Pro is not automatically a direct replacement just because the total pixel count fits. Confirm whether the existing receiving cards and cabinet data path are compatible; otherwise compare a controller built for that 1G architecture.

Which receiving cards and VMP versions work with CX40 Pro?

NovaStar VMP is the working space for the CX40 Pro canvas, layers, presets and supported device settings. That makes it useful for both the first setup and the next operator who has to recall the wall months later.

The controller, VMP version, receiving cards, cabinet files and firmware still need to belong to the same documented system. Save the working VMP project with the final output map. This gives the buyer a recoverable configuration instead of a controller that only works while one installer remembers the settings.

NovaStar CX40 Pro vs MX40 Pro, MX2000 Pro and MX6000 Pro

Choose by system architecture first, then compare capacity and price.

Controller Choose it when
CX40 Pro You want a fixed 5G LED wall controller with HDMI, DP and 12G-SDI inputs, up to 9M pixels and no removable card plan.
MX40 Pro Your project uses a fixed 1G COEX architecture with its own source, layer and 20-port/10G requirements.
MX2000 Pro You need two input and two output card slots so the source and LED transport can be selected for the project.
MX6000 Pro You need a larger eight-input/eight-output allocation for many sources, screens or output systems.

CX40 Pro buying and setup FAQs

Is the CX40 Pro a 5G LED controller?

Yes. Its documented LED side includes six 5Gbps Ethernet outputs and one 40Gbps optical output. The cabinet/receiving-card system must be designed for the matching 5G COEX data architecture.

Can the CX40 Pro replace a modular MX2000 Pro or MX6000 Pro?

No, not when the project needs removable input or output cards. The CX40 Pro has fixed source and LED interfaces; MX2000 Pro and MX6000 Pro are selected for card-based configuration.

Is the CX40 Pro suitable for xR or virtual production?

Yes, when the complete system is specified for camera work. The controller provides documented timing and picture tools, while the final result also depends on the sources, reference, camera, receiving cards, driver ICs and cabinet calibration.

What does the 9-million-pixel rating confirm?

It confirms the stated total load, not a complete cabinet map. Check how every cabinet chain is assigned across the chosen 5Gbps or optical paths before treating the total as a finished design.

Does the CX40 Pro use VMP?

Yes. VMP is the COEX workspace for the screen canvas, layers, presets and supported device settings. Match the controller, VMP and receiving-card versions to the project documentation.
