What is the NovaStar T40?
The NovaStar T40 is listed as a board-level player in the Taurus range: a multimedia player supplied as a bare circuit board, which stores and plays content and drives an LED screen without a separate controller. That is the role, and it is the part we can state without qualification.
Beyond the role, this page is going to be unusually careful with you, because NovaStar does not currently publish a specification for this model. We would rather tell you that than repeat figures we cannot source.
If you need to order a board for a cabinet this week, the section listing the documented boards will get you there faster; they fit a footprint you can design to today. If your drawing already says T40, ask us and we will confirm the exact part that ships before you commit to it.
What NovaStar publishes about the T40
NovaStar’s download center carries no T40 specification. It publishes model-specific documents for the T10 Plus, T30 and T60 boards, and for the TB10 Plus, TB20 Plus, TB30, TB40, TB50 and TB60 boxes, and the T40 is not among them.
The firmware picture points the same way. NovaStar issues a single release note covering the 3rd-generation players, and the file is named for the models it serves: T30, T50, TB30, TB40, TB50 and TB60. There is no T40 in that list either.
What circulates instead is the TB40 document. The PDF that most sellers attach to a T40 listing, ours included until now, is byte-for-byte the TB40 Multimedia Player Specifications — a boxed, mains-adjacent product with its own dimensions, its own weight and its own power input.
So the descriptions you will read elsewhere — that the T40 is the board version of the TB40, with the same pixel capacity and the same sockets — are reasonable guesses. They are not sourced, and we are not going to print them as though they were.
Confirm which board you are getting before you order
Send us the quantity and the screen you are driving, and we will go to the supply chain for the answers before anything is invoiced. Three things get confirmed in writing: the exact part that ships, its pixel capacity, and its board dimensions.
Those three cover the ways this could go wrong for you. A board that is physically larger than you planned will not fit a cutout that is already tooled, and a board with less capacity than you assumed leaves part of your screen dark on commissioning day.
Two more questions are worth adding if your product needs them: whether the board carries an HDMI input, and what voltage it expects. Those separate the documented boards from one another, so they will separate this one too.
We will publish the answers on this page as soon as we have a document behind them. Until then, nothing here is presented as a specification.

Order the T30 if your product plays prepared content only, and the T50 if a laptop or camera has to reach the screen. Both carry 1,300,000 pixels.
Order the T60 once your pixel count passes that, or when four cable routes into the screen would shorten the looms inside your housing.
If the specification you were reading was the TB40
Buyers arrive at this model from the TB40 document more often than from anything else, so it is worth naming what that document actually describes. The TB40 is a finished, cased player: 238.8 mm by 140.5 mm by 32.0 mm, 459.7 g, running on DC 12 V at 2 A.
It carries 1,300,000 pixels across two Gigabit outputs and has an HDMI input with a loop-through output. It is the compact member of the boxed family, and it is already the one people choose when a mains-powered box is too big or too heavy for the position.
If those numbers are the ones you were working to, the TB40 is the product they belong to and it can ship against them. If you need that specification without a case, the T50 board is the documented equivalent at the same pixel capacity, with the same HDMI input, on a low-voltage supply.

None of the documents below is a T40 specification, because none exists. They are here so you can check our reasoning rather than take our word for it.
NovaStar T40 FAQ
Why does this page not list T40 specifications?
Because NovaStar publishes none. Its download center has no T40 document, and the 3rd-generation firmware release note names the T30, T50, TB30, TB40, TB50 and TB60 without listing a T40. The PDF circulating against this model is the TB40 specification.
Is the T40 just the TB40 without its case?
Possibly, and we will not print it as fact. Nothing NovaStar publishes states that relationship, so we confirm the part, its capacity and its dimensions with the supply chain before your order is placed.
What should I order if I need a board this week?
The T30 if the screen plays prepared content only, the T50 if it needs an HDMI input, or the T60 above 1,300,000 pixels. All three have current NovaStar specifications and share one board footprint.
