What is the NovaStar T60?

The NovaStar T60 is the largest bare-board player in the Taurus range. It stores and plays your content, takes a live HDMI source, and drives up to 2,300,000 pixels of LED screen from four Gigabit outputs, all on a board you fit inside your own product.

You reach for it when your display has grown past what the smaller boards carry. A fine-pitch wall, a large indoor sign or a double-sided totem with two big faces all pass 1,300,000 pixels quickly, and this is where the range goes next.

The board measures 165.0 mm by 146.4 mm by 21.2 mm and weighs 197.6 g, the same size as its smaller siblings and about 18 g heavier.

Nearly twice the screen in the same cutout

The T60 carries 2,300,000 pixels where the boards below it stop at 1,300,000, and it does so on identical outside dimensions. Your housing, your mounting plate and your drilling jig do not change.

That is what saves a redesign when a customer specifies a finer pitch late in a project.

Four outputs, so cable runs inside the product stay short

Four Gigabit sockets let you feed your screen from four points instead of chaining every cabinet off one long line. Inside a large sign that gives you shorter looms, fewer connectors in series and less of the display behind any single cable.

Set two of the four as spares instead and a damaged run stops taking the picture with it, at the cost of halving what the board will drive.

The parts a design usually needs are already on it

A relay contact, two sensor connectors, a 4G module slot and a radio module connector are all on the board itself. On a boxed player each of those would be a separate purchase and a separate mounting problem for you.

Your bill of materials gets shorter and your enclosure gets simpler, which on a product built in volume is where the money actually is.

Sizing a screen to one T60

Multiply your screen width in pixels by its height and compare the answer with 2,300,000. That single sum tells you whether one board covers the product, and it is worth doing before the pitch is finally chosen rather than after.

Pitch is what moves your number, not the size of the sign. A 6-foot by 3-foot face at 3 mm pitch comes to about 609 by 304 pixels, or 185,000. Take the same face to 1.2 mm and you are at 1524 by 762, or 1,160,000 — six times the load, from one decision about how the display looks close up.

Two hard edges sit outside the total. Neither side of an ordinary screen may pass 4096 pixels, and a long thin display may run to 23,040 wide within the same 2,300,000.

Pass any of those and your product needs two boards and a split screen, with the halves kept in step. That works between players of the same generation only, so plan both of yours as T-series rather than pairing a board with an older unit.

One cutout, three capacities

Design the housing once and you can build three products from it, because the T30, T50 and T60 share a footprint to the millimetre. The mounting plate, the standoff pattern and the depth allowance are the same for all three.

What changes between them is what has to reach the outside of your product. A T30 needs no video socket at all, while the T50 and T60 both want an HDMI panel connector and access to the source button, so cut the housing for the largest case and blank off what a cheaper build does not use.

The output side changes too: two RJ45 exits on the smaller boards against four on this one. Leaving four apertures in the tooling costs nothing and keeps the upgrade open.

Ask NovaStar for the high-precision structural drawing before anything is machined. The dimensioned drawing in the datasheet is meant for planning, and the tolerance on those figures is 0.3 mm.

T60 or TB60 — board or box

Order the T60 if you are manufacturing the housing anyway and a low-voltage rail is already inside it — you also get the relay contact without a separate card.

Order the TB60 if the player is being fitted to somebody else’s finished screen, if only mains power is available, or if the specification calls for UL on the device itself. The board’s datasheet lists MIC, FCC, IC and CE; the boxed model’s lists UL as well.

T60 datasheet, ViPlex Express and firmware

Your four-output cabinet map is built in ViPlex Express and stored on the board, so keep the project file from commissioning. Rebuilding a four-port map through an access panel is the slowest job on this product.

Firmware updates run over the internet in a single step on any board newer than V2.3.0. Older boards must reach V2.3.0 from a local file before they will accept V3.0.0 or later.

Is the T60 the same size as the T30 and T50?

Yes, to the millimetre: 165.0 mm by 146.4 mm by 21.2 mm on all three, so one housing design takes any of them. The T60 is about 18 g heavier than the T30.

Do I have to use all four outputs?

No. Use what the screen needs, or set two as working and two as spare routes. Holding two back halves what the board will drive.

Does the T60 come in a case?

No. It is a bare board supplied with an antenna, a power connector and two antenna pigtails. The TB60 is the same electronics in a mains-powered chassis.

Can it take a live camera or laptop?

Yes, through one HDMI 1.3 input at up to 1920×1200 at 60 Hz, with a second HDMI socket looping the picture onward. Interlaced sources are not accepted.

What voltage does it need?

Anything between 5 V and 12 V DC, at up to 18 W. Size the supply at 25 W so the board is not competing with the LED load during start-up.

What can the on-board relay switch?

A circuit you provide, up to 30 V DC at 3 A, supplying no voltage itself. NovaStar advises against putting mains through it and publishes the alternative: the relay pins drive a solid-state relay with its own 3 V to 30 V supply, and that device carries the live wire.

Is the T60 UL listed?

No. NovaStar lists MIC, FCC, IC and CE against this board. Where your product needs a mark the board does not carry, that certification is yours to obtain as its manufacturer.

What warranty covers a T60?

Three years of serial-tracked manufacturer coverage, because these boards come through our authorized US NovaStar channel.
