What is the NovaStar MX_4 12G SDI Input Card for?

Choose this card when cameras, a broadcast switcher or an SDI router already feeds the production over coax. It brings four native SDI source paths into one IN slot of NovaStar MX2000 Pro or MX6000 Pro: source → input card → MX chassis → output card, receiving cards and LED wall.

It is an input card, not a controller or LED-output expansion. The four SDI connectors do not create four LED outputs, increase wall pixel capacity or make an unsupported receiving card compatible.

NovaStar MX_4 12G SDI Input Card specifications: four SDI inputs and 4K60

The current MX6000 V1.5.0 table documents four 12G-SDI inputs up to 4096 × 2160@60 Hz, with ST-2082 (12G), ST-2081 (6G), ST-424 (3G), ST-292 (HD) and 3G-Level A support. It also explicitly lists 1080i, 576i and 480i input support, which is the key reason to choose this card over the DP/HDMI cards documented here.

NovaStar recommends CANARE 12G-SDI coax and documents support up to 50 m. Confirm the source standard and actual route before installation; the current card table does not list HDR for this model.

Can MX_4 12G SDI fit your MX2000 Pro or MX6000 Pro source plan?

Yes, when an IN slot is available and the host, input-card model, slot number and firmware match the VMP project. MX2000 Pro has two input-card slots and MX6000 Pro has eight; this four-input card still consumes only one slot, but it does not bypass the host’s output-card or screen-map limits.

How four 12G-SDI sources reach the LED wall through an MX chassis

A camera, switcher or router can stay on its native SDI infrastructure while four individual feeds enter the card and continue through the MX chassis to the output-card and receiving-card path. Record each source standard, interlace state and coax distance so a legacy 1080i chain is not treated like a 4K progressive feed.

The input card preserves source ingest; the MX output cards, receiving cards and cabinet map still determine the LED-side result. The current card table does not list HDR, so do not sell an HDR workflow from this card alone.

MX_4 12G SDI vs HDMI, DP and ST 2110 input cards

Choose MX_4 12G SDI for native broadcast coax, multiple SDI standards or documented interlaced feeds. Choose MX_4 HDMI2.0 or MX_4 DP1.2 for computer and media-server sources, or ST 2110 when the facility already distributes sources over an IP fabric.

Use the model-named download page as the starting point, then verify the shared MX6000 Pro V1.5.0 input-card specification, the manual for the actual MX host and the matching VMP project version. The current card table does not provide a separate card-only firmware package.

MX_4 12G SDI Input Card buying and commissioning FAQs

Can this card accept interlaced video?

Yes. The official table documents 1080i, 576i and 480i input support.

Does the card add four LED outputs?

No. It adds four SDI source inputs in one MX slot; LED outputs are controlled by the host output architecture.

Is HDR documented for this card?

Do not assume it from this page. The current MX6000 Pro V1.5.0 input-card table does not list HDR for 4×12G-SDI.

Can I use this card's input for SPDIF audio output?

Not according to the current MX6000 Pro V1.5.0 audio note. It lists this card among inputs that do not support SPDIF audio output.

MX_4 12G SDI Input Card order check

Before requesting a quote, confirm the four SDI standards, interlace requirements, coax routes and MX host slot that will carry the broadcast sources into the LED system:

  • List all four SDI source standards, resolutions and interlace state
  • Confirm 4K60 maximum is sufficient
  • Plan 12G-SDI coax routes and distance
  • Confirm an MX IN slot is free
  • Record VMP/host/card firmware versions

Send us the SDI standards, source resolutions, interlace state, coax distances, host model and receiving-card or screen plan through our contact page. We can then confirm the correct input-card path before you order.
