What is the NovaStar DH418 receiving card?

The NovaStar DH418 is an eight-HUB75E receiving card for an LED cabinet that already uses this board and connector layout. It receives the image data from the controller, then sends the correct part of that image to the cabinet’s LED modules. It is usually bought as an exact spare, not as a general upgrade for another receiving-card family.

That distinction matters. A card can have a similar size or pixel number and still put data into the wrong module positions, leaving a cabinet mirrored, scrambled or black. For an existing wall, match the DH418 label, the eight HUB75E ribbons, the mounting pattern and the saved cabinet file before ordering.

For a new cabinet, use the DH418 only after the cabinet maker confirms the HUB75E arrangement, driver IC and scan method. If those parts of the cabinet design are different, choose the card specified for that cabinet rather than trying to adapt an unrelated board.

Pixel-level brightness and chroma calibration, plus quick dark- or bright-line adjustment, can help a repaired cabinet blend back into the wall. The card needs the right cabinet data and compatible modules; it cannot correct a wrong ribbon order or turn a different LED module into the original one.

Protection only when the system is built for it

The DH418 can keep a stored image for startup or a lost source, and it supports loop backup when the controller and cabinets are wired with main and backup Ethernet paths. Those are useful safeguards in a compatible system, but buying a replacement card alone does not add a backup route to a wall that was not wired for one.

DH418 HUB75E connectors and cabinet fit

The eight HUB75E ribbons are the first thing to confirm on a DH418 order. They carry the module data inside the cabinet, so their connector positions and sequence are part of the cabinet’s map. A board that fits the mounting holes but has a different connector layout can still send the image to the wrong module rows.

For a replacement, compare the old card’s full label, all eight ribbon locations, the board dimensions and the cabinet’s power connection. If the failed card is gone, provide clear inside-cabinet photos and the saved configuration file before a replacement is selected. It is much cheaper to confirm the match than to rewire a cabinet on site.

DH418 loading capacity for PWM and common driver ICs

The DH418 introduction names a maximum of 256 × 256 at 60 Hz, but the official loading-capacity section is the safer number for cabinet planning. It lists 192 × 256 for PWM driver ICs and 176 × 256 for common driver ICs. Do not quote 256 × 256 as a promise that one card will run every cabinet.

Capacity is only the second filter. The DH418 also has a 16-group parallel-RGB limit, so the driver IC, scan method and module data path must agree with the cabinet. If you are near either ceiling, confirm the design before ordering rather than using a total-pixel estimate.

Replacing a DH418 receiving card without losing the cabinet map

Before removing a working DH418, use NovaLCT to read back the receiving-card program and the cabinet configuration parameters. The program tells the card how to work with the cabinet electronics. The cabinet file stores the scan, wiring and pixel map. One does not replace the other.

Then match the old card label, HUB75E ribbons, power connection and cabinet layout. Test the saved configuration on one cabinet before applying it across the wall. This prevents the familiar replacement surprise: the cabinet powers up, but its image is scrambled or its brightness no longer matches the wall.
